Description of Requirement
The Davey Crockett Ranger District on the Davey Crockett National Forest is soliciting quotes
for Boundary, Leave and Cut tree marking and sample tree cruising:
Timber Marking
Boundary Tree Marking
The project area is located in Compartment 14 on the Davy Crockett Ranger District. The
treatment areas requiring boundaries are within the Beaver Creek project area and consists of
22.4 miles of boundary for thinning operations. Unit boundaries in compartment 14 have been
flagged and mapped using Avenza and Two Trails. Paper and electronic maps will be provided
when work begins on the contract. All unit boundaries of the contract will be marked in orange
tracer paint with 3 diagonal slashes at DBH and 2 stump marks. Boundary trees should be
marked frequently enough to easily see marked trees in either direction along the boundary line,
however the distance between marks should be between 20’-150’ apart. Boundaries adjacent to
any major road don’t require a marked boundary as the road marks the boundary.
Leave Tree Marking
The project area is located on the Davy Crockett Ranger District. The treatment area is in the
Beaver Creek project area consisting of 8 units (163 acres) of first thinning plantations within
compartment 14. Five leave tree units are located on the Deer Hunter timber sale while three
more are located on the Hickory timber sale. Units are to be determined and maps will be
provided at the time of award on the contract. Units will be marked in orange tracer paint with a
4” full wrap breast mark and 2 stump marks for sawtimber and 1 stump mark for pulpwood. All
units will be marked to leave an average of a 60 BA. Some units will have visual quality
requirements where directional marking and increases in basal area retained is necessary.
Cut Tree Marking
The project area is located on the Davy Crockett Ranger District. The treatment area in
compartment 14 consists of 17 units totaling 380 acres. Five cut tree units are located in the Deer
timber sale and the remaining 12 on the Hickory timber sale. Only pine will be marked in
compartment 14. Units will be marked in blue or yellow tracer paint and sample tree tally cruised. Two stump marks for all marked sawtimber trees and 1 stump mark for all marked pulpwood trees. All units will be marked to leave an average of a 60 BA. Crew must be cruiser qualified to mark. Some units will have visual quality requirements where directional marking and increases in basal area retained is necessary.
Trees will be selected and marked based on the description in each individual cruise plan so that the desired basal area/acre (BA) and spacing would result after harvest.
