Provide targeted support to 3 schools (one elementary, middle, and high school campus) that will be pre-selected by AISD to improve landfill waste diversion; engage students, teachers, staff, and families; and build a school culture of zero waste. Schools are especially key in the FWIP due to the large volume of organic waste produced and the opportunity to establish good sorting habits in teachers and students who can reinforce these practices both at school and in the community. All AISD schools have compost, recycling, and landfill waste services, but schools vary in the effectiveness of their sorting habits and landfill waste diversion. The project objectives are to: • Improve composting, recycling, landfill waste diversion rates; • Engage students, teachers, staff, and families; • Build a school culture of zero waste; and • Inform best practices for schools districtwide.
