Description

purpose: The City of Leander Parks and Recreation Department, herein after “City”, through the Public Arts Commission seeks to commission an artist for the creation of public art to be displayed in Veterans Park in Leander, Texas.
PROJECT DESCRIPTION AND BACKGROUND: The City of Leander is a premier community in the Austin/Central Texas area. Leander is well known for its high quality school system, exceptional neighborhoods, youth athletics, and unprecedented population growth.

The mission of the public art program is to create a better visual environment for Leander residents and visitors. The City seeks to commission a new piece of art for a visually prominent location in the community. Veterans Park resides along the highly travelled Bagdad Road and is located in the geographic center of Leander (location map attached). Adjacent to Veterans Park is the City of Leander Public Library and the historic Mason Homestead.

The Leander Public Art Master Plan establishes the following goals for artworks:

Bring performing and visual art to public places;
Bring art projects, programs and features to Leander;
Increase communication and awareness of art in Leander.

The City is seeking an artist to design, fabricate and provide artwork/sculpture for Veterans Park. The piece will be installed in the Plaza of Flags, more specifically in the center of the “Star”. Images of the park are attached.

PROJECT BUDGET: The maximum project budget is $80,000. The final artist fee shall be negotiated once the most qualified artist is selected. A fee proposal is not required or permitted with responses. A fee proposal shall have no bearing on the City’s selection.

The fee does NOT include the base of the sculpture. The base piece shall be provided by another entity
