Recent inspection of the intake using divers has shown numerous areas of damage to the piping resulting in substantial ground infiltration into the system. Also the intake screens have been severely damaged or lost. The sand removal system within the intake wet-well is not functional. While the intake continues to function and treated water is provided to all water customers, it is imperative that a Preliminary Engineering Report is developed by the engineering firm selected as quickly as possible in order to access the funding necessary to make the necessary repairs. Because the sand infiltration requires constant remediation measures, the implementation of repairs needs to take place as quickly as possible while the weather is likely to be conducive for the work tasks involved. In addition, the sequencing repair work must allow the water treatment plant to continue providing water to the system customers.
