A. Asphalt Removal and Preparation: i. Sawcut a clean joint the full depth of the asphalt along the entire length of the proposed turn lanes, including the rectangular section where the turn lanes meet the existing median crossover. ii. Remove and dispose of all asphalt beyond the sawcut. B. Subgrade and Base Preparation: i. Excavate and remove all organic material to ensure the turn lanes are constructed on solid engineered fill (e.g. pug road base or compacted, nonorganic material that meets stability and compaction requirements suitable for supporting pavement per the TDOT Standard Specifications referenced). ii. Ensure minimum of 10 inches of compacted road base exists; add materials and compact if deficient.
