Specifications include, but are not limited to: The South Dakota Department of Health (SDDOH) will be implementing death review process statewide, and will standardize the process for infant, child, maternal and violent death review. The SDDOH was awarded funds for the National Violent Death Reporting System (NVDRS), which is a system to capture information from multiple sources on violent deaths. This data provides a clearer understanding of cause and contributors to violent deaths which include homicides, suicides, unintentional firearm injury deaths, and deaths of undetermined intent to assist with community prevention efforts. In South Dakota, approximately 80% of these deaths are suicides. Current child review statewide includes infants that have been released from the hospital through age 1. As a part of the NVDRS the SDDOH is planning to expand infant death review statewide to now include infants and children through age 12. With the expansion of NVDRS and Child Death Review (CDR) the SDDOH is looking for a partner to assist with the implementation of death review in Western South Dakota. The overall goal of implementing death review processes is to provide data that will inform prevention activities in communities across SD. The purpose of this partnership would include abstraction of data for review process and implementation of injury prevention activities in Western SD.
