Specifications include, but are not limited to: installing edge drains adjacent to PCC pavement or AC pavement. The material shall consist of natural sand. Crushed material is not acceptable. The percentage of material passing a #200 sieve shall not exceed 2.0%. Quality testing will not be required. ; The Contractor shall place the edge drain with equipment capable of cutting the trench, lining the trench with drainage fabric, and laying the pipe in a continuous operation. If multiple pieces of equipment are used in the continuous operation, the equipment shall be sequenced and spaced in a manner satisfactory to the Engineer. The Contractor shall use a machine trencher designed and operated so the excavated material does not fall back into the trench. The Contractor shall place the edge drain at a minimum grade of 0.2%. The Contractor shall use laser grade control on the trenching machine or other accurate controls necessary to achieve the correct placement whenever the pipe grades do not follow the pavement grades at a constant depth. ; installing epoxy coated deformed tie bars into existing longitudinal concrete pavement joints - Saw cut the pavement to place the center of the tie bar at the depth specified. Multiple saw cuts perpendicular to the centerline may be required to properly remove the material from the slot. Tie Bar slots should be aligned to miss any existing cracks. Depending on the wander of the existing cracks, the tie bar slot may be eliminated. The tie bar slots may be shifted up to ±5 inches as directed by the Engineer to miss an existing crack.
