Specifications include, but are not limited to: 1.The following are minimum requirements for the schedule of benefits: 1.1 Medical Expenses (Accident or Sickness): Basic Medical - $250,000 at 100%. 1.2 Medical Evacuation/Repatriation - $250,000 1.3 Return of Mortal Remains - $250,000 1.4 Security Evacuation (military, political, personal threat, natural disaster) - $100,000 1.5 24/7 Emergency telephone line required, accessible from abroad 1.6 24/7 Medical assistance services: physician referral benefit prior to departure; physician referral and monitoring of medical cases while abroad 1.7 Coverage as any other condition for illness/injury/death incurred under the influence of alcohol or other drugs 1.8 Coverage as any other condition for illness/injury/death due to psychological, mental or nervous disorder, including self-inflicted injury or suicide - $25,0001.9 Coverage as any other condition for illness/injury/death as a result of an auto, train, plane, or other motor vehicle accident 1.10 Coverage as any other condition for illness/injury/death as a result of participation in non-professional sports 1.11 Coverage as any other condition for illness/injury/death resulting from terrorist, military, and political threat issues, personal threat issues, and natural disasters 1.12 Mental health coverage (including counseling, prescription medication) included2. Preferred inclusions:2.1 Pre-existing conditions benefit 2.3 On the ground student assistance in the event of a catastrophic emergency 2.4 Direct payment; claims settled directly with health care provider 2.5 Pre-authorization of insurance benefits up to a certain limit 2.6 Lost/stolen baggage benefit2.7 Trip interruption benefit2.8 Telepsychiatry support2.9 Coordination of care services prior to departure, including assistance in filling prescriptions while abroad 3. Plan should also include these benefits: 3.1 Thirty days Extension of Benefits (if confined to a hospital for a covered injury or illness and under the care of a physician on the termination date of the coverage). Coverage will terminate on the earlier of the following: 1) 30 days from the end of the period of coverage, 2) The maximum benefit has been paid; 3) participant is released from the hospital or physician care. 3.2 No co-pay. 3.3 No penalty for not pre-notifying insurance provider when abroad. 3.4 Students may choose any medical provider without penalty, and the insurance company will make every effort to pay directly to any provider chosen by the student 3.5 Coverage periods aligned with the time frames provided by the University of South Carolina 3.6 Security assistance including location briefs, itinerary reviews, and emergency notifications for enrollees
