A. Design Details 1. Design Fill-Site 1 Pond Dr Easley SC 29640 Estimated cover/fill on top of culvert will total 2’. 1’-2” compacted red clay, 6” crusher run, 2” binder and 2” surface asphalt 2. Provide recommended methods for connection of culvert sections and wing walls. 3. The bottom of wing wall footer and bottom of box must be the same elevation. 4. Provide recommended backfill and compaction methods so that the culvert, footings, and wing walls are not damaged during installation. B. Joint Sections Refer to the SCDOT 2007 Standard Specifications for Highway Construction sections 722.2.4 and 722.4.1.1. C. Manufacture/Testing 1. Manufacture shall be in accordance with AASHTO or ASTM. Refer to the SCDOT 2007 Standard Specifications for Highway Construction section 722.2.1 section 722.4.1.4. Before acceptance of culvert by Pickens County, test cylinders must have passed according to said section of standard. 2. Provide lifting/handling points that are in accordance with SCDOT 2007 Standard Specifications for Highway Construction section 722.4.1.1. 3. Each section shall be clearly marked and labeled. 4. Precast wing walls shall be supplied. Cast in place wing walls will not be accepted. The wing walls shall include a monolithic footer or bearing slab. Two-piece wing walls will not be accepted. The size of the bearing pad shall be determined by the design engineer. 5. Wing walls shall be constructed so that the total height will match the height of the culvert plus headwall. The wing wall shall slope at a rate of 3:1 and be 10’ in length. 6. The culvert itself shall have an 8’ x 5’ hydraulic opening. This opening should be above the stream level during normal conditions. There shall be at least 32-ft of combined culvert sections to make up total length.
