1. Description The tailgate spreader must be designed for mounting on a standard dump body, 96 inches wide, underneath the regular tailgate. It must be equipped with a hydraulically driven auger and rotary spinner to spread material, in variable widths, a distance of 4 to 40 feet, at adjustable heights. Auger and spinner motors must be equipped with internal speed sensors to provide feedback to a spreader control system (supplied separately and not part of this contract). The spreader must be capable of spreading free-flowing granular materials, bulk salt, abrasives and chemicals. Each unit must be furnished with identical equipment, options, and features. 2. General Units must be new, and of a model in current production or an update of an existing model. Units must be furnished completely assembled, fully serviced, and ready for immediate operation. The right is reserved to reject all bids proposing to furnish equipment, which, in the opinion of the Department's engineers, is not satisfactory for the Department's use in the proposed application. Units supplied to this specification shall meet or exceed these requirements. 3. Specific characteristics 3.1. Design The spreader must be designed for easy mounting and removal. It must be of an all - 304 stainless steel construction using 10 gauge (minimum) sheet metal, 1/4” minimum endplates, and properly reinforced and braced for continuous operation. The design must be such that the spinner is maintained in proper working position regardless of the degree of elevation of the dump body. 3.1.1. Trough Material to be spread shall be fed by gravity from a raised dump body with an open tailgate, hinged at the top. The trough shall accept this material across its length (the width of the dump body). Material shall be retained in the trough for spreading and shall not fall out the sides or back of the trough. 3.1.1.1. The spreader trough must mount to the truck dump body utilizing “Quick-Connect” hardware for easy mounting without tools. 3.1.1.2. A hinged (3-point min), spring-loaded or mechanical latch type, bottom door shall be provided. 3.1.1.3. A trough cover/back plate must be part of the unit that may be raised and locked when spreading and lowered and locked when dumping. 3.1.2. Feed Mechanism Must include a minimum 6” continuous pitch feed auger. The auger shall be constructed of 2- inch minimum Schedule 40 steel pipe and will be driven by a direct drive hydraulic motor. 3.1.2.1. Discharge will be at the left end of the trough. 3.1.2.2. A hydraulic safety interlock device to prevent power from reaching the auger motor when the top cover or bottom door are opened beyond the normal operating position shall be provided.
