A. The psychological evaluations will be made to assist the SCDPPPS and the SC Board of Paroles and Pardons in assessing an inmate's motivation and capacity for supervision. The evaluations are intended to: 1. Detect any evidence of an inmate being dangerous to self or others. 2. Detect any severe emotional or behavioral problems that would impair an inmate's satisfactory adjustment under supervision in the community. 3. Identify any social or psychological conditions based on the evaluation which may affect an inmate's satisfactory community adjustment. 4. Identify any South Carolina Department of Corrections’ (SCDC) program which may have enhanced or may enhance an inmate's readiness for parole release. 5. Identify any community supports necessary to enhance an inmate’s successful community adjustment. 6. Identify the likelihood of dangerous, anti-social, or self-destructive behavior. B. Each psychological evaluation must address the specific referral question. Each summary section will include an ordinal scale with the relative chance for successful adjustment expressed as the difference from a neutral point: --- -- - 0 + ++ +++ _______________________________________________ Plus responses indicate a greater chance of successful adjustment and minus responses indicates a lesser chance of successful adjustment. Each evaluator will circle one of the seven points to indicate that evaluator's judgment as to the likelihood of successful adjustment. C. Psychological evaluations will include at a minimum: 1. A personal interview with the inmate or client at least 50 minutes in length. 2. The Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI) psychological test should be administered in all cases where feasible. In the absence of the MMPI, the Personality Assessment Inventory (PAI) testing instrument should be used. 3. A review of the inmate's correctional file. 4. Collateral contacts with the SCDC appropriate institutional social workers as appropriate for inmates. 5. Collateral contacts with other SCDC staff for inmates as deemed necessary. 6. All inmate psychological evaluation interviews will be conducted on site at the respective South Carolina Department of Corrections correctional facility. The contractor will schedule appointments through the Classification Section at the affected correctional facility. Interviews for inmates assigned to South Carolina Department of Corrections local, city, or county designated facilities will be mutually arranged at the South Carolina Department of Corrections designated facility or at an appropriate South Carolina Department of Corrections facility. The Contractor will schedule appointments for such inmates through the South Carolina Department of Corrections Office of designated facilities
