Removal of downed woody debris greater than 4” in diameter, consisting of whole trees, tree limbs, treetops and logs from constructed dozer lines impacted by Hurricane Helene. All standing shrubs and saplings less than 6” DBH must be masticated or heavy brushed within the 30’ guidelines. Stumps/roots will not need to be removed but they could be pushed back into their hole, masticated, or pushed away from the line. Removal should consist of skidding, sawing, grinding, mulching or masticating woody debris and removing or distributing chips adjacent to the dozer line. If debris is too large to mulch, it should be cut into manageable pieces and pushed outside of the 30’ buffer. Debris cannot be pushed onto private land or into archeological sites (arc sites will be disclosed when work starts). Special care should be utilized to avoid any damage to private property and commercial timber where dozers lines are adjacent to private property lines. Protected sites will be flagged with specific color and will be avoided. Work will be completed within 30 feet of the center line of the constructed dozer lines on both sides for a total of 60 feet. Chips from the processing of woody material will need to be spread out to a depth of not more than 3 inches or removed from site. Wood chips are not to be left on the dozer line as this area will be disced and planted at a later date by FS. May be Red Cockaded woodpeckers located in the area. Heavy equipment and vehicles are prohibited within 50 Feet of a cavity tree. The trees are marked with a white horizontal band.
