Specifications include, but are not limited to: A qualified consultant (Contractor) to develop a plan that identifies specific infrastructure improvements that will make RIPTA more resilient to the effects of climate change and sustainable over the long-term. The transit industry is at a crossroads in many regards. New propulsion methods, vehicle automation, and new scheduling technologies that reduce reliance on traditional transit vehicles are all reshaping public transportation, and RIPTA is not exempt from these changes. While these changes create great possibility for RIPTA, success is not a foregone conclusion. These improvements must be implemented in a strategic, thoughtful manner to maximize RIPTA’s resources, improve RIPTA’s carbon footprint, avoid duplication of effort, and advance Rhode Island’s climate change goals. At its conclusion, this project will result in a plan that will guide RIPTA towards a more sustainable future by recommending strategies that will reduce greenhouse gas emissions, improve RIPTA operational efficiency, and prioritize investments in green technologies.
