The project (the “Project”) includes, but is not limited to: completely replacing four (4) bridges (Bridge nos. 062301, 062401, 063601, and 063701) removal of two (2) bridges (Bridge nos. 062501 and 063801), rehabilitation of one (1) bridge (Bridge no. 061601) and one (1) culvert (Bridge no. 081601); temporary and permanent utility relocation; modification and installation of traffic signals; installing new signs and sign structures; reconstructing, replacing, and/or installing drainage structures; design of and executing catenary reprofiling of the Amtrak OCS under bridges 063601 and 063701, disconnecting the existing Amtrak OCS system from the existing structures; resurfacing; upgrading all existing median and roadside barriers/guardrails within the project limits to current MASH requirements; restructuring the interchange of Route 37 and US-1 (Post Road) to an at-grade intersection eliminating the overbuilt loop ramps and restoring wetlands; installation of high friction surface treatments along ramps and curves on Rt-37; upgrading lane striping for compatibility with autonomous vehicles; installation of adaptive signal systems with transit signal priority along Route 2 and Route 1; construction of a new bicycle lane linking Washington Secondary Bike Path to Meshanticut Valley Parkway, Route 2, and Chapel View Plaza areas; enhancement of existing pedestrian crossings on US-1 and Route 2 and installation of a new crossing at the proposed RI Route 37 terminus at US-1 and on Route 2 at Chapel View Plaza. Other work will include and is not limited to: drainage construction, landscaping, highway lighting replacement, noise mitigation, handling and disposing of contaminated materials.
