The work of this project is to perform maintenance dredging of three previously dredged areas within Ninigret Pond. The areas include the Primary Sedimentation Basin, Secondary Sedimentation Basin, and Relief Channel (areas illustrated in Map 1). The dredge material shall be removed using a hydraulic dredge and pipelines. Material dredged from the areas shall be placed in two locations. 1. Beneficial Reuse Area 1 is associated with the Charlestown Breachway Restoration Project, which is currently out to bid and will run concurrently with this dredging project. Dredged material designated for this area will be placed on the west side of the breachway structure to support beach, dune, and back-barrier restoration. The contractor selected for this dredging project will be required to coordinate with the Town, the State, and the contractor responsible for the Charlestown Breachway Restoration Project to ensure both projects are executed successfully. Approximately 30,000 cubic yards of material will be deposited at this location (Map 2: Beneficial Reuse Area 1). 2. Beneficial Reuse Area 2 will receive dredged material pumped into the intertidal zone on Charlestown Beach as indicated on the project drawings (Map 3). This location will receive approximately 65,000 cubic yards of material. The pipeline for this operation shall be positioned within six feet of the rack line or the most recent high-tide swash line, extending seaward (Map 4).
