The International Institute of Tropical Forestry (IITF) is requesting the purchase and installation of a new processing potting machine needed to support reforestation projects developed by the Puerto Rico Department of Natural and Environmental Resources (PR DNER); relocate and upgrade, as needed, existing electrical system related to the safe operation of the machine; and supply a comprehensive operational plan and a preventive maintenance schedule. Removal and disposal of existing potting machine is not required. Contractor shall furnish all materials, equipment, supplies, transportation, labor, and supervision necessary to complete the above referenced project in accordance with the attached draft Statement f Work (SOW).
The El Vivero Central Cambalache owned by the Puerto Rico Department of Natural and Environmental Resources, a state agency, is the primary tree nursery in Puerto Rico. It supplies most trees for all 7 regional nurseries on the island. The site is composed of an administrative building, irrigation and power systems, green houses, shade houses, open dry areas, a seed germination laboratory, and a soil mixing and pot filling equipment in the machinery shed. The purpose of this contract is to replace the soil mixing and pot filling equipment which was originally acquired by the state agency in February 1999. It was in service since that date, providing plants to several state-owned nurseries and other agencies.
Due to Hurricane Maria and subsequent earthquakes incidents, the equipment is no longer in operation and damaged beyond repair. New proposed work includes the upgrading of the electrical system that will power the units. This upgrade is needed to bring it to meet NEC and OSHA standards, and not contemplated on the original installation.
Due to structural improvements on this site, contracted by FEMA funds, the unit will be relocated on a sounder space reducing environmental impact to the units.
