Specifications include, but are not limited to:. The objectives of FGDM are: To prevent foster care placements. To reduce the risk of harm and increase the safety of children by involving families in the decision making process. To maintain children safely in their homes whenever possible and appropriate. To ensure children have permanency and stability in their homes. To preserve family relationships and connections for children. To increase the capacity of families to provide for their children’s needs. To enhance culturally competent social work practice. To provide clear definitions of the evaluation process and data on successful outcomes. The minimum qualifications of a FGDM facilitator are: To have a Master’s degree in a human service field or a Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of three years’ experience working with children and families. To effectively manage conflict. To possess excellent organizational and time management skills. To be competent in oral and written communication. To be flexible and adaptable. To be knowledgeable of social issues relating to children and families. To be knowledgeable of community resources and how to access them. To be culturally competent and have a non-judgmental attitude, respect for, and sensitivity to diversity and individuality.
