Retama is a popular hall; it has a comfortable feel of community that students like”. Retama Residence Hall was constructed in 1956 to serve the University as a dormitory. The 31,255 gsf building is a two to three story residence hall built on a sloping site in the center of campus across the street from the Commons Complex. The existing residence hall has 73 student bedrooms housing 141 students and has served its useful intended purpose. It is in need of a major remodeling to comply with building code, accessibility recommendations, state energy requirements, and security. The building will be gutted leaving in place the structural framing and the exterior skin. The Windows will be replaced as well as new HVAC; Electrical; and Plumbing with energy efficient components. New Data lines and connections will be installed. Additional scope includes new Security and Life Safety Code upgrades including a fire suppression system and new fire alarm. Additional areas shall be included such as a two bedroom staff apartment, staff office, front desk, mail room, two study rooms/areas, one kitchen, two laundry rooms, public restrooms, and a lobby/lounge space.
