Specifications include, but are not limited to:. Description: Following the Tropical Storm Irene flood of 2011, bed armor treatments were applied to approximately 200 feet of Adams Brook in Newfane, VT. These treatments resulted in significant impacts to aquatic resources which continue to occur today. The depth, sizing and gradation of bed armor were not appropriate and the transition to and from natural streambed elevation was too large and too abrupt. The Windham Regional Commission (WRC), in collaboration with the State of Vermont, Department of Environmental Conservation, and the Town of Newfane, seeks to restore the brook consistent with natural river processes and to restore in-stream fish habitat. Funding for this project is being provided through a grant from the State of Vermont Ecosystem Restoration Program. The restoration will serve the dual purposes of protecting the State’s water quality and restoring aquatic organism passage. Specific project objectives include: restore the stream channel; achieve aquatic organism passage; protect the stream banks and roadway embankment; and avoid reconstruction of the roadway or embankment.
