Specifications include, but are not limited to: The Osprey is a state threatened species that nests in the Black Hills of South Dakota. South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks needs updated information on the status and success of known nests within the greater Black Hills of South Dakota. The general area where the work will occur includes the Black Hills area extending from the Wyoming border west-northwest of Spearfish, east to Rapid City and south to the Cheyenne River and Hot Springs area (see Figure 1). The contractor will also survey up to 12 additional sites with past evidence of Osprey presence during the summer to determine whether Ospreys are nesting. General areas for this second nest group are various lakes, other water bodies, or water treatment ponds throughout the Black Hills of South Dakota and two sites outside the Black Hills; Shadehill Reservoir near Lemmon and an area northeast of Sturgis, including Bear Butte State Park (Table 2). The results of these surveys will provide South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks (SDGFP) with information needed to assess the overall status of this species within the Black Hills and surrounding areas.
