The South Carolina Department of Natural Resources (SCDNR) is soliciting quotes from qualified vendors for twenty-five satellite (GPS/VHF/Iridium) telemetry transmitters for long-term attachment to American Alligators with all requirements and specifications stated herein. South Carolina Department of Natural Resources seeks twenty-five satellite (GPS/VHF/Iridium) telemetry transmitters which will be utilized to track adult American alligators in their range in South Carolina. A part of population monitoring for American alligators is tracking their movements within their range. Using satellite tags is a proven and widely used technique for understanding movements of these animals and contributing to their effective management. There are no commercially available off-the-shelf products that fulfil this need. These transmitters must be purpose built to spec and are purchased directly from the manufacturer. The scope of work for this type of tracking has been developed over time by multiple different universities and state agencies. Data sharing is common in tracking wildlife movement, and it is important that the data collected is comparable to other research institutions and tracking types in South Carolina. NOTE: SCDNR has identified a representative model. By naming a manufacturer and specifying a representative model, it is not the intention to deter competitive bidding. The purpose is to identify and establish a satisfactory level of quality and a competent model for the State.
