DuPage County (“County”) is seeking a Contractor for a highwall stabilization project at the Elmhurst Quarry, Maintenance work is necessary in several areas of the quarry to re-establish safe access to the quarry, to protect the equipment located within the quarry, and to maintain the integrity of the lands adjacent to the quarry property. Elmhurst Quarry is located in northeast Illinois, approximately 12 miles west of Chicago in Sections 2 and 3 of Township 39N, Range 11E. The quarry is bounded by Second Street on the north, Highland Avenue on the east, the Chicago Northwestern Railroad on the south, and IL-83 on the west. It consists of east and west lobes. The two lobes are connected by a short tunnel supported by a reinforced concrete arch under West Avenue referred to as the keyway. DuPage County Stormwater Management utilizes Elmhurst Quarry as a flood control facility to divert and retain flood waters from Salt Creek, west of the quarry and IL-83, which minimizes flood damages to downstream areas.
