The Stamford Public Schools (SPS) is soliciting proposals for a provider of a science program for use with all classes in grades 6-8 for SPS middle schools. This program must be designed to: • Provide the highest quality professional development aimed at facilitating teachers' implementation of the program. The professional development proposal should include actions to support teachers before and during the program implementation. • Provide opportunities for student inquiry through laboratory and field investigations, where students develop their understanding of science through inquiry-based learning, critical thinking and student readings. • Provide investigations that develop students' abilities to work collaboratively to formulate questions; develop experimental procedures; and collect, graph and analyze data using the appropriate tools, models and technology. • Provide content and opportunities that intentionally integrate mathematics and language arts within science lessons and investigations. • Provide opportunities for meaningful real-world activities that engage students in exploring sciencerelated careers and enrichment experiences. • Include all materials necessary for completion of the lessons within the program. • Include formative assessments, projects, laboratory investigations, and summative assessments that support teachers in evaluating student learning. • Reflect SPS Science Scope and Sequence and Connecticut Science Framework; and • Provide developmentally and grade-appropriate materials and tasks.
