This Notice of Intent is being posted to inform interested parties that the Massachusetts Department of Public Health (DPH) intends to enter into a ten-year Agreement with the National Board for Certified Counselors, Inc. (NBCC), a non-profit corporation located at 3 Terrace Way, Greensboro, NC 27403. The DPH is responsible for the licensure and regulation of Licensed Mental Health Counselors (LMHC) in Massachusetts. The DPH requires the use of an examination for the purpose of determining whether potential licensees have met minimum competency standards. Only the DPH has the authority to determine a candidate’s eligibility to be licensed. The NBCC is the national credentialing body for counselors, ensuring that counselors who become certified have achieved the highest standard of practice through education, examination, supervision, experience, and ethical guidelines.
