These specifications are for fully engineered clear span bridge superstructures of steel construction and shall be regarded as minimum standards for design and construction. Structural design of the bridge structures shall be performed by or under the direct supervision of a licensed Professional Engineer and done in accordance with recognized engineering practices and principles. 1.2 Qualified Suppliers The successful bidder is required to identify the intended bridge supplier within seven (7) days of receiving their award letter. As of the project bid letting date, the bridge supplier shall be listed as “Approved for Provisional Use” on the North Carolina Department of Transportation’s Approved Product List under the “Pedestrian Bridges” Product Category. Only those bridge suppliers that meet the above requirement will be allowed to provide the bridges on this project. Any bridge supplier that is not approved as indicated above on the bid letting date will be subject to rejection. 2.0 GENERAL FEATURES OF DESIGN 2.1 Span The span lengths of the bridges shall be as shown on the plans. 2.2 Width The widths of the bridges shall be as shown on the plans. 2.3 Bridge System Type The bridges shall be designed as truss systems for which the bridge Manufacturer has been approved. Design loads are to include pedestrian and vehicular loads as required by the AASHTO LRFD Guide Specifications for the Design of Pedestrian Bridges, Article 3.1 and 3.2
