Project Description The Stephen Street Trail Connection is an important trail connection that will connect the Village of Lemont to the regional Centennial Trail. Phase II Engineering is nearing completion with final PS&E approval expected within the next several months. The south end of the project begins where the existing I&M Canal Trail intersects with Stephen Street. The project consists of an on-street bike route heading north to the north end of Stephen Street. The trail then continues as an off-street bike path to the Centennial Trail. A two-span prefabricated truss bridge is proposed to cross over the Sanitary and Ship Canal with the longer span spanning the entire width of the Canal. The project will provide recreation amenities, health benefits, community vitality, economic benefits to the downtown area and a sense of place in trail communities, improving quality of life for residents of the Village of Lemont, and contributing to the region's growing commitment to building healthy, sustainable communities. Project Scope The selected firm shall perform Phase III Construction Engineering services as required and in a professional and satisfactory manner. All work must be completed in accordance with the policies and standards of the City, IDOT, and FHWA. The anticipated schedule is letting in April of 2026, start construction July 2026 and substantial completion spring 2027. The scope of services shall include but is not limited to the following: • Attend preconstruction and recurring construction meetings. • Provide full time construction engineering services. • Monitor construction activities and perform inspections. • Measure and Track quantities. • Review all pay estimates, waivers, certified payrolls, and provide recommendations for payment.
