INTRODUCTION METRA Transit System in Columbus, Georgia is seeking bids for one (1) Heavy-Duty 24’ Rolling Maintenance Scaffolding in order to perform rooftop maintenance and access on large transit buses. The large transit buses are 30’, 35’ and 40’ in length. The scaffolding must also be able to provide rooftop access to electric bus batteries for the purpose of maintenance and replacement. TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS 1. DIMENSIONS: Refer to page 17, See Figure 1 for dimensions drawing. 1.1 Scaffolding Length shall be 24’ as measured from the back scaffolding bar to the front bar and excluding the length of the stairs. 1.2 The scaffolding height shall be 9.5’ as measured from the ground to underneath the walkway. The height shall extend an additional 3.5’ as measured from the floor of the walkway to the support beam to create adequate safety railing. The total height shall be 13’ as measured from the ground to the top of the frame. 1.3 The scaffolding width, in total, shall be 15’. This includes two walkways being 3’ in width and the bus maintenance area being 9’ in width. 1.4 The ladder extension shall be 10’ in length. The ladder shall firmly lock onto the scaffolding frame. A locking gate shall be located at the point of connectivity of for the ladder and the scaffolding (see A. in Figure 1). 2. SCAFFOLDING FEATURES: 2.1 Scaffolding must meet or exceed current OSHA standards. 2.2 Scaffolding must be movable with double-braking casters capable of locking in place. Casters will be of a standard size to fit the dimensions of the diagram (see B. in Figure 1). 2.3 Guard rail gate enclosure at the top of the ladder. 2.4 Two sets of swinging gates that join over the top of the bus at the far ends of the system to interlock the two scaffolds together on both sides of the bus (see C. in Figure 1). 2.5 Diamond steel plate walkway platforms with support bars underneath the platforms for added structural strength. Steel plate edges must be smoothed to avoid jagged edges. The walkaway platforms will have a slip resistant, rubber grip surface for safety (see D. in Figure 1). 2.6 Scaffolding must be painted with a high visibility color such as orange or yellow. 3. SCAFFOLDING ASSEMBLY AND TRAINING: 3.1 The Vendor must assemble the individual scaffolding sections upon delivery and provide training to METRA maintenance staff on the proper use and assembly of scaffolding around a bus. 3.2 The Vendor must provide instructional material, including written instructions on assembly and maintenance, to METRA staff.
