The River Road Treatment Plant is a conventional wastewater treatment facility originally constructed in the mid to late 1970s. The plant includes a bar screen, aeration basin, clarifier, digester, and contact chamber. Due to the age of the infrastructure and the expected service life of its components, several key systems are now in need of significant rehabilitation or complete replacement. Aeration Basin The aeration basin air system requires a full rehabilitation. The scope of work includes: x Dewatering, removing and disposing the accumulated sludge, and cleaning all four cells of the aeration basin x Complete replacement of all air distribution system in all four cells of the aeration basin Once initial cleaning is complete, all remaining metal piping, fittings, and valves from the blowers to the new joints on the drop pipes in the aeration basin will be blast-cleaned and repainted. Due to the current inaccessibility of the filled cells, additional repairs to pedestals, tank walls, and floors may be required. The full extent of these structural repairs, if any, will be determined once the basin is drained and the interior is accessible. Grit System The grit system consists of a grit removal system inside a circular grit chamber and a grit disposal system. Both systems are in need of full replacement. The scope of work includes: x Replacement of the existing driving motor and mixer inside the grit chamber as part of the grit removal system x Replacement of the existing grit pump, concentrator, grit conveyor (classifier), and all associated piping and fittings x Installation of a new control panel with all associated wiring and conduits As with the aeration basin, access limitations beneath the filled grit cone prevent a complete condition assessment at this time. Additional shaft support work and minor wall repairs may be necessary and will be evaluated once the system is dewatered and fully exposed.
