1. RAP Samples are available on KDOT mixing strip #2311 Jct US50/K177, Strong City, Contact Marion Office @ 620-382-3717. 2. The contractor is responsible for establishing and maintaining the centerline of the traveled way for the duration of the project. Splitting the traveled way with a tape measure is an acceptable technique to establish centerline. This work is considered subsidiary to other items in the contract. 3. No lane closures or detours will be allowed overnight. 4. The signs listed are the minimum required. The contractor shall provide all signs and other traffic control devices, for proper traffic control of all construction activities. 5. The contractor shall be responsible for noting the location of all pavement markings and warning rumble strips prior to the work, and reinstalling these in the proper location after the overlay. 6. The milling depth may be altered by the Engineer to prevent “scabbing” or loss of the remaining surface lift. 7. All excess milled material not used on this project shall become the property of the Contractor and shall be removed from the Right of Way daily. 8. Milling thickness will be adjusted at bridge approaches, ends of the project, railroad crossings and grade crossings to allow a reasonable transition. 9. The Contractor shall construct a wedge/taper after performing the milling in transition areas and before opening to traffic where the height differential between the milled surface and the existing surface is ½” or greater. The wedge shall be constructed with asphalt, either cold mix or hot mix, supplied by the Contractor. Millings will not be allowed as a wedge. The length of the wedge shall be 1 foot for every ¼” starting with ½” of differential. Compaction of the wedge may be accomplished by wheel rolling with a rubber-tired vehicle. All work and materials necessary to accomplish this work are subsidiary to the bid item milling. The surfacing Contractor shall remove the wedge of material on the same day the final surfacing is constructed. 10. Culvert between Cottonwood Falls and Strong City will be widened by KDOT personnel. 11. Additional flaggers may be required US-50/K-177 intersections and other locations depending on the Contractor’s operation. These additional flaggers shall be subsidiary to the bid item Traffic Control.
