This work shall consist of all material, equipment and labor required to provide all earthmoving operations in accordance with the plans. This includes stump and root removal, topsoil stripping, stockpiling, mass grading, site cuts, fills, sub-base construction, and placement of fill material. The ENGINEER’s estimate of earthwork quantities on the site is in the summary of quantities. This estimate is approximate and is provided for informational purposes only. The CONTRACTOR is responsible for determining the quantities of earthwork anticipated for this item. CONSTRUCTION REQUIREMENTS The CONTRACTOR shall ensure the subgrade is suitable for subsequent topsoil placement. Care must be taken to comply with all environmental codes and regulations imposed by the governing entity. During all grading operations, it is necessary to keep the soil as clean of debris as possible. This is particularly true of topsoil. This shall include, but not be limited to, the removal of all stones, sticks and debris. MASS GRADING This work shall consist of all work to bring the surfaces of the site to a sub-grade of proper elevation, as dictated by the Drawings, by cutting and filling, subsequent to topsoil stripping. In addition, any additional fill will be placed at locations shown on the plans or as directed by the ENGINEER. Where filling is necessary to attain the proper sub-grade, the fill shall be suitable quality, meaning it shall contain no sticks, organic material, topsoil, stones or large rocks (exceeding 3 inches in diameter) or other debris. Fill materials should be placed in lifts not exceeding 8-inches in loose thickness and moisture conditioned to within ±2 percentage points of the optimum moisture content. All surfaces receiving fill shall be disked to provide for a greater bonding between the surface and the fill material...
