The purpose of this contract is to secure a complete set of services to accomplish stand treatments for a variety of forest health issues. Specifically, removing downed woody debris from fire lines due to Hurricane Helene damage to reduce the heavy fuel loading in the area for wildfire suppression. Description of Application Site: Contract areas are located within the boundaries of the Sumter National Forest, Newberry, Union, Laurens and Fairfield Counties, South Carolina. Locations of the fireline mastication locations will be designated by flagging, GPS coordinates, avenza maps can be provided upon request, and location maps are provided to the contractor in this solicitation. Government provided maps will show the roads, compartment boundaries, and line locations. There are no photos of the damage available, and it varies by site. It is recommended that the vendor walk the proposed areas to assess the work. Approximately 10.36 (54,695 ft) miles of line will be treated to the specifications found within “Work Involves” Section of this statement of work. This statement of work consists of clearing Removal of downed woody debris greater than 4” in diameter, consisting of whole trees, tree limbs, treetops and logs from constructed dozer lines impacted by Hurricane Helene. Removal should consist of skidding, sawing, grinding, mulching or masticating woody debris and removing or distributing chips adjacent to the dozer lines. Special care should be utilized to avoid damage to private property and commercial timber where the dozer lines are adjacent to private property lines. Protected sites will be marked with a specified color of flagging and will need to be avoided.
