The McHenry County Division of Transportation is in the final stages of completing Phase II Design Plans for the reconstruction of West Solon Road bridge over the North Branch of Nippersink Creek, located in Richmond Township, and desires to engage a firm prequalified by the Illinois Department of Transportation to assist the County with Phase III Construction Engineering. The general scope of this project consists of the replacement of the existing three-span PPC deck beam structure. The proposed structure includes a single-span PPC I-Girder structure with a raise in the vertical profile for hydraulic clearance and extends from the touch-down to touch-down limits of the raised vertical profile (approximately 925-ft). The roadway consists of (2) 11-ft lanes and 5-ft shoulders on each side. A proposed permanent sheet piling wall is proposed on the NE corner of the bridge running east for approximately 224-ft in length. Currently, we are targeting an April 2026 IDOT letting with construction to start in summer of 2026, but this schedule is still subject to change and be pushed out later. Regardless, this project is expected to last one full construction season where we anticipate the project to need an RE from July 2026 through the project completion of end of October 2025 with some working day items in November 2026 and Spring of 2027 possible. Anticipated Construction Project Work Items (may include, but not limited to the following): Full time Resident Engineering spanning the entire 2026 construction season with the possibility of this project needing punch list/working day construction work in Spring of 2027. o The Resident Engineer who will be the County’s primary point of contact, must have a minimum of 10 years of experience in the road and bridge construction industry. An Illinois Licensed Professional Engineer is desired but not required. o This will be a federally funded project working directly with IDOT’s Local Area Engineer Christian (Laird) Hagmann and McHenry County DOT hand in hand.
