The Township of Deptford seeks to appoint an individual, or firm, that is an attorney-at-law of New Jersey as the Special Counsel for items and requirements listed below. Mandatory Minimum Requirements/Duties: A. Represent the Township in any general legal matters as requested by the Township, including, but not limited to, Land Use Law, Municipal Law and Labor Law. The Special Counsel shall advise and assist the Council, the Manager and the Departments as requested in the administration of Township Government. B. If requested by the Township, Special Counsel shall attend meetings of the Council, draft ordinances and resolutions as directed by the Manager or the majority of the members of Council, and give opinions and rulings on questions of law which may arise at the request of a majority of the members of Council or the Township Manager. C. Prepare or approve any legal instruments relating to the business of the Township D. Special Counsel shall represent the Township in any litigation, and conduct trials, appeals and other proceedings affecting the interest of the Township as directed by the Township. E. Maintain records of all action suits, proceedings and matters which relate to the Township’s interest and report thereon as the Manger or Council may require. F. Have power to enter into any agreement, compromise or settlement or any litigation in which the Township is involved subject to the prior approval or ratification of the Township Council. G. Upon the termination of his service with the Township, forthwith surrender to his successor all Township property, papers and records, together with written consent to substitution of his successor in any pending actions or proceedings.
