Steam Trap Survey & Inspection Inspection work shall proceed by building. All steam traps in a building shall be inspected using the appropriate testing methods listed below: • Perform a complete survey of steam traps across URI’s steam distribution systems, including mechanical rooms, plant spaces, and selected end-user locations. • Utilize ultrasonic testing, thermal imaging, and other RIE-accepted tools to assess the condition and performance of each steam trap. • Inspect and verify trap types, tag numbers, service condition (failed open/closed, leaking, proper operation), and associated piping configuration. • Perform trap repairs including cleaning and minor repairs that can be completed within 1 hr/trap. Coordinate repairs with building operations. • Identify opportunities for system optimization and recurring maintenance strategies • Provide digital photo documentation of trap conditions to support inspection reports and facilitate maintenance planning. 3. Trap Tagging & Identification • URI currently utilizes stainless steel tags with bar code and printed six digit numbers. Supply and label or re-label all traps using durable, high temperature and weather-resistant tags with unique identifiers similar to existing. Tags shall be corrosion-resistant, rated for ≥400°F, with UVresistant ink or engraving.
