The project scope includes the interior renovation of a brick building located at 173 S. Henderson Street in Rusk, Texas. The existing building area is 6,973 sf with an undeveloped lot of 30,000 sf behind the building. The existing building is three (3) bays with clear span wood roof framing in each bay. The interior of the building has been demolished and is ready for new construction. One bay is pier and beam construction, and the adjacent two bays are slab on grade. The building is to be developed and used primarily by the nursing program. Program elements for the project include a classroom for 30 students, a large-tiered classroom to accommodate 48 students, an anatomy and physiology lab for 24 students, a nursing skills lab, a student/faculty lounge, office space for five faculty, storage, and restrooms. There will be required a small addition in the back of the building for storage, and the addition of an 8,300 sf covered patio behind the building for exterior student space. Sitework for the 30,000 sf lot will include approximately 65 parking spaces, paving, sidewalks, landscaping, and lighting. The intent is to proceed with Design, Construction Documents, and Construction so the project construction is completed and open for students to use the Fall Semester of 2027.
