The Redevelopment Legal Counsel shall be an attorney at law of New Jersey, with expertise and experience in assisting municipalities with redevelopment projects. Redevelopment Legal Counsel performs and provides legal advice with regard to the following activities: its practice in the areas of land use, government, and economic development law. In addition, Redevelopment Counsel is responsible for the preparation and/or review of any initial planning, acquisition of properties, environmental remediation, redevelopment agreements, land use approvals, financing, and operation regulation of the Borough. Redevelopment Counsel will review all redevelopment plans developed by the Borough Planner and participate in negotiations with potential developers. The Redevelopment Legal Counsel will help support the Borough’s goal of creating the Metuchen Arts District that may include the rehabilitation of the existing Forum Theatre or the design and construction of a new theatre, and other possible elements of the Arts District including restaurant/’bar, catering facility, art gallery, outdoor performance space, café/wine bar, etc. The Redevelopment Legal Counsel who is selected will need to separately track hours and billing for the Arts District for the Borough.
