In general, the Work under this Contract includes, but is not necessarily limited to, the following major items as specified in these documents and as shown on the Project Map. The following descriptions are provided as an outline of major work items and shall not be construed as an inclusive or complete listing of all Items of Work under this Contract. The Contractor will shear blade previously chained wooded material into windrows or piles. The Contractor shall consolidate berms rows during the piling process. When there are two adjacent berm rows they shall be pushed together to form one debris pile. When there are an odd number of existing berm rows one of the rows may be piled separately, however, it must be pushed into the middle of the existing cleared area completely clear of it’s current footprint. Piling Specification: 1. The contractor will consolidate the wooded debris into windrows or round piles to be burned in the future. The Contractor will not be responsible for burning the debris. 2. No pile or windrow will be within 20 feet of standing vegetation. 3. No pile or windrow will have more than 10% organic mat or soil in it. 4. No more than 5% of the organic mat in the project area will be disturbed. 5. Piles or windrows will be compacted to the extent practicable by periodically driving heavy equipment onto the pile during the piling process. 6. Round piles must be a minimum of 15’ tall and pile width shall not exceed two times (x2) the height of the pile. 7. Piles shall be at least 50’ apart. All windrows must have a forty (50) foot break for every three hundred feet of length (300’). 8. The area will NOT be flagged by the SDSWCD. The SDSWCD will provide the contractor with a GPS containing the clearing area perimeter. The footprint of that trail is distinguishable without the use of the GPS, however, the GPS will be useful should question arise. 9. Choice of equipment to perform satisfactory work shall be the responsibility of the Contractor. 10. The Contractor will be responsible for using appropriate equipment. 11. The Contractor shall be required to provide a trail through to the end to the project site. This trail shall be a minimum of 12’ wide and improved sufficiently to be trafficable by a half ton pickup truck. This trail shall be made trafficable all days the Contractor is performing work.
