The Port of Seattle (Port) is committed to increasing equitable access for workers in Port-related industries. This is achieved by creating opportunities for workers to acquire the skills, experience, and education they need to secure increasingly complex and better compensated jobs and careers. The Port is committed to guiding workforce development efforts to benefit near-Port communities, Port customers and tenants, and Port-related economic development activities. To aid in meeting employer demand and fulfilling the Port’s mission, the Port’s Office of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion is funding introductory training programs in career pathways aimed at increasing the availability of a skilled labor force in Port-related industries, including aviation. The Port is expanding funding to a new Aviation Security career pathway based on labor market and education research, along with many interviews of airport employers, Port staff and other key workforce development partners. The Port will partner with a Consultant to support the development and implementation of the Aviation Security Career Pathway Program, aimed at increasing the number of workers in entry-level jobs at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA) who advance in their careers by securing employment in aviation security positions.
