Provide guidance on fit-for-duty and reasonable accommodation requests. o Medical Review Officer must be a board-certified physician, licensed in the state of North Carolina, and preferably have a minimum of five (5) years of occupational health experience. • Pre-employment medical examinations (physicals), commercial drivers’ license medical examinations (DOT physicals), Fit-for-duty exams, Return-to-work exams, physicals for safety sensitive positions, and Public Safety physicals for Police Officers, Firefighters, and Telecommunicators. There should also be a medical review of the results of the physicals. o Physician(s) shall be required to perform a complete physical on each patient. Standard tests may include, but are not limited to, vision screening/Vision Acuity Complete, hearing screening, pulmonary function, musculoskeletal system (shoulders, spine, knees, ankles, extremities, range of motion, etc.), skin, lymph exam, heart, ears, throat, head and neck, eyes, neurologic (motor, sensory, deep tendon reflexes, etc.), abdomen, genitalia (men only), EKG, Chest X-rays, height, weight, vital signs (pulse, blood pressure, respirations, temperature) and blood work. o Firefighter physicals should be conducted in accordance with the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Standard 1582 and in accordance with any other required local and state regulations. o Police physicals should be conducted in accordance with the North Carolina Department of Justice criteria and in accordance with any other required local and state regulations. o Commercial driver's license (CDL) physicals should be conducted in accordance with Department of Transportation standards and be performed by a medical professional who is certified and listed on the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) National Registry of Certified Medical Examiners.
