1.01#Material Requirements Furnish Coarse Aggregates meeting the requirements of Section 805. Furnish Quarry Shot Rock of a size and quality suitable for its intended use. Obtain approval of the Engineer prior to delivery. Furnish Quarry Waste Material meeting the following requirements: Gradation requirements are 100 percent passing the 1½ inch sieve and a maximum of 18 percent passing the No. 200 sieve (KM-606 or AASHTO T11 Procedure B). The maximum shale content in the coarse aggregate (plus 3/8 inch sieve) shall be 10 percent when tested by KM 64-604. The material shall be satisfactory for its intended use by the Department on highway shoulders. Obtain approval of District personnel prior to delivery. Furnish a seal coat aggregate that meets the gradation in the Standard Specification section 805 for aggregate gradation size of a No. 8 or No. 9-M. Contrary to section 805.05.04 of the Standard Specifications no more than 2% passing the No. 200 sieve is permitted. The Department will pre-sample the aggregate stockpile at the last location for use for gradation and minus No. 200 sieve. If the aggregate fails gradation and/or the minus No. 200 sieve the stockpile will be rejected and no payment will be made by the Department for the aggregate that failed to meet the specifications. 1.02#Sampling, Testing, and Compliance District personnel will accept each order based on visual acceptance. If the visual inspection indicates a possibility of non-specification material, district personnel will sample and test any questionable material; however, Quarry Shot Rock and Quarry Waste will be accepted or rejected solely on personnel’s visual inspection for stability and suitably for intended use. The Department may sample the material at the Vendor's plant, during stockpiling, or after delivery at any time prior to final acceptance for payment and test according to the Department's Manual of Field Testing and Sampling Practices. The Department will reject aggregate when excessive variation of gradation or physical properties cause nonconformance to the finished product or mixture requirements. If Coarse Aggregate which has been delivered fails to meet specifications, the Transportation Cabinet may, as determined by District Personnel, (1) reject and require removal of failed materials at the Vendor’s expense or (2) accept at a reduction in contract unit price according to Section 805.15
