The King Mountain Reservoir project aims to satisfy the long-term water system storage needs for a large portion of the City potable water system. The City’s water system comprehensive plan was updated in 2025 and identified the King Mountain reservoir project as the primary storage addition for most of the water system service area. This study was high level and did not detail operational changes that would be needed/expected as a result of locating the storage at this site. In addition, recent and planned growth in the King Mountain area has identified needed local storage and delivery capacity increases. Lastly, the City is actively assessing two outlying urban areas for annexation which will further increase storage requirements in the system. To assess the system-wide operation impacts of the proposed King Mountain Reservoir storage and confirm the required storage capacity and system upgrades, the City requires a detailed study to make recommendations. This includes confirming the planned location and layout of the King Mountain Reservoir site and confirming major pipelines/pump stations needed to support the storage and resulting changes to the impacted system operation.
