The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) launched the Expanded Testing Initiative (ETI) to supplement existing HIV testing efforts to improve the availability and accessibility of HIV testing services, facilitate adoption of HIV screening in healthcare settings, and increase identification of undiagnosed HIV infection in populations disproportionately affected by HIV. ETI goals include: (1) all individuals newly diagnosed with HIV through ETI receive their HIV test results, (2) are linked to medical care, and (3) are referred for Partner Services. ETI-specific activities and outcomes are centered around the number of HIV tests and healthcare setting in which tests were conducted, basic demographic information about test recipients, the number of confirmed new and previously diagnosed HIV infections identified, and the proportions of individuals with new HIV diagnoses successfully linked to medical care and referred to Partner Services.
