All work under this Contract shall be done in conformance with the 2025 Standard Specifications for Highways and Bridges, the Supplemental Specifications contained in this book, the Construction Standard Details in effect as of June, 2025, the 1990 Standard Drawings for Signs and Supports, the 2015 Overhead Signal Structure and Foundation Standard Drawings, the 2009 Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) with Revisions 1, 2, and 3 and the November 2022 Massachusetts Amendments to the MUTCD, the 1968 Standard Drawings for Traffic Signals and Highway Lighting, the latest edition of The American Standard for Nursery Stock, the Plans and these Special Provisions. The work under this Contract consists of supplying, constructing, and installing traffic signal related items at various signalized locations as directed by the Engineer. Additional work such as pedestrian curb ramp construction, curb resetting, sidewalk replacement, pavement patching and resurfacing may also be included. The intent of this Contract is the repair and improvement of Traffic Signals as assigned. The work will depend on the type of existing traffic signal equipment at the site. Work will be at various MassDOT owned and maintained intersections in District 4. Work may include but not be limited to items such as: • Modify existing traffic signal operation to include the addition of a signal phase, flashing yellow/red arrow displays, provide additional vehicle/pedestrian detection systems or provide a new system communications infrastructure requiring the installation of conduit, pull boxes, and detectors. • Remove and replace defective in-cabinet devices including controllers, MMU’s CMU’s, Power Supplies, Load Switches, Switch Packs, Flash Transfer Relays and Vehicle/Pedestrian detection devices. • Modify menu-driven controller programs and install the necessary connectors and wiring to implement any MassDOT-designed software changes such as hard-wired, radio or time-base coordination, preemption, clocked events, etc. in the controller with or without replacing the cabinet and ancillary equipment.
