The contractor shall furnish and deliver Long Leaf Pine Straw and a drop trailer or caged trailer to Francis Marion University on an as requested basis in accordance with the following specifications. DELIVERY OF PINE STRAW 1. Straw Specifications: ➢ The long leaf pine straw should have ten (10) to twelve (12) inch long needles. ➢ Straw shall be fresh, hand raked, free of sticks, pine cones, weeds, and/or litter. ➢ Straw shall be clean and red in color with adequate moisture for appearance. Aged, discolored, or deteriorated straw is not acceptable. ➢ The University reserves the right to refuse any straw bales that are not of premium quality. 2. Bale Size and Coverage: ➢ The long leaf pine straw shall be tightly baled and tied with string. ➢ Nominal size of a bale of pine straw shall be 14” x 14” x 28” packed. ➢ A bale of pine straw should cover sixty (60) square feet, with a nominal thickness, when spread, of two (2) inches. 3. Drop Trailers or Cage Trailers: ➢ Contractor shall deliver bales of pine straw on a drop trailer or caged trailer. ➢ Totally enclosed drop trailers or caged trailers shall be well maintained with lockable access doors/gates. ➢ Drop trailers must not leak through the roof. ➢ Caged trailer shall have a tarp cover adequate to protect the straw from weather. 4. Loading of Pine Straw Bales on Trailer - shall be in a manner that University personnel can verify delivery count without unloading. 5. Delivery Specifications: ➢ The University will order a minimum of 200 bales for each order. ➢ When notified, vendor shall deliver load within five working days. ➢ The University does not desire for more than 400 bales to be on site at any given time unless specified otherwise by a designated member of the Grounds Maintenance Department. ➢ The drop trailer or caged trailer shall be left at the University in a designated location until completely emptied. Staging of the trailer should not exceed forty-five (45) days. ➢ Vendor shall contact the Grounds Maintenance Department “Care of: Mr. Michael Lynch” at 843-661- 1152 for specific location to set/leave trailer.
