The University of South Carolina is seeking professional resumes and information from sculptors interested in contracting to design, sculpt, cast, and erect a detailed representational sculpture of a double helix. Preferred material would be stainless steel but may utilize secondary materials of artists discretion. DNA is represented by a pair of strands that are held tightly together, forming a double helix. Each DNA molecule contains two DNA strands, which are twisted around one another to make a spiral like shape. The nucleotides that make up DNA are joined together like a long string of beads, called a DNA strand. The sculpture will be placed within the lobby of the new University of South Carolina Health Sciences Campus School of Medicine under a monumental stair on a granite plinth.
