The contractor shall perform TSI on the following timber stands, achieving the specified basal area levels (BA): 1. Stand 21 (33 acres) 1. Current BA: 87 ft2 2. Current trees per acre 1"-4" DBH (TPA): 721 3. Target BA: 65 ft2 2. Stand 23 (15 acres) 1. Current BA: 105 ft2 2. Current TPA: 780 3. Target BA: 85 ft2 3. Stand 34 (30 acres) 1. Current BA: 105 ft2 2. Current TPA: 626 3. Target BA: 80 ft2 In the understory of the specified area, the contractor shall cut and deaden trees measuring one inch or greater diameter at breast height (DBH) that are primary target species or that need to be thinned to reduce tree stocking levels. Primary target species are defined as the following: 1. Buckthorn 2. Dogwood 3. Eastern redcedar 4. Elm 5. Hickory 6. Ironwood 7. Redbud 8. Sassafras 9. Sugar maple Oaks, walnuts, serviceberry, black cherry, American plum, and mulberry may be left. All trees marked with blue paint shall remain untreated. Trees greater than six inches DBH may be double-girdled or completely cut down with a stump height no greater than one foot above the soil line on the uphill side. Any hanging or leaning trees that pose a danger shall be cut down to the ground, and any spring poles must be released. Trees within one tree height shall not be felled across a fence, trail, or road. Large trees may be skipped if they will fall across fences. The contractor must follow all manufacturer label instructions and specifications when applying herbicide. The contractor shall apply herbicide to treat the following: 1. The cambium layer of all stumps of all tree species, except oaks, eastern redcedar, and serviceberry 2. Girdled trees, except oaks and redcedar 3. All grapevines and Virginia creeper growing on acceptable growing stock oaks or walnuts 4. All bush and Japanese honeysuckle, regardless of size. Honeysuckle should be treated using the cut stump, hack and squirt, or foliar herbicide application method. Forest inventory revealed no honeysuckle or other invasive species in these stands.
