In an effort to further reduce the numbers of white-tailed deer in its parks, the County of Essex intends to again conduct a deer management program in the Essex County Park System. This program would be conducted under the terms of a Special Deer Management Permit issued by the New Jersey Division of Fish and Wildlife. Issuance of a permit is subject to submission of a permit application and approval from the Essex County Board of County Commissioners and the New Jersey Fish and Game Council. Licensed hunters using shotguns loaded with slugs will attempt to remove deer no more than two (2) days per week, over a 4-week to 8-week long period, during the months of January and February 2026. There is no limit on the number of deer to be taken.
