Reconstruction of two (2) retaining walls, sidewalk work, and other miscellaneous items of construction.PROTECTION OF EXISTING INFRASTRUCTURE AND AMENITIES This work shall be done according to the applicable portions of Section 107.16 and 107.20 of the Standard Specifications. All existing site features, including but not limited to pavements, sidewalks, curbs, playground equipment, etc., shall be carefully protected from construction equipment and damage. The Contractor shall be responsible for the cost of restoring any damage to existing infrastructure and amenities at the Park. Any means and methods used to protect existing site features shall be approved by the City prior to implementation. This work will not be measured and paid for separately but shall be included in cost of the pay items of the project. EARTH EXCAVATION, SPECIAL This work shall be done in accordance with Sections 201, 202, and 252 of the Standard Specifications. This work shall include the removal and satisfactory offsite disposal of all excess earth material, base course material, aggregates, riprap, and any retaining wall remnants (remaining after wall removal work) throughout the limits of the project in order to construct the project to the lines and grades shown on the plans. The offsite disposal of this material shall be in accordance with Article 202.03 of the Standard Specifications. Earth excavation shall also consist of the removal and disposal of concrete block, railroad ties, landscaping timbers, landscaping bricks/blocks/edging, landscaping rocks, vegetation (including small trees) etc., that may be encountered within the construction limits and interfere with construction. Prior to removing any items of this nature, the Contractor shall notify the City of the material that is to be cleared. The City shall be given reasonable time to salvage any of these materials to be cleared, if so desired. The Contractor shall dispose of all the surplus materials to be cleared that are not claimed by the City. No additional compensation will be allowed for clearing such items, and the cost of this work shall be included in EARTH EXCAVATION, SPECIAL. The City of Edwardsville Parks Department will sod the project area with their own labor after project completion. However, the side is to be prepped for sodding by the Contractor according to Section 252. All areas disturbed by construction activities shall be prepped for sodding. In areas to be sodded, the top 3 inches of finished surface shall consist of earth material suitable for sod establishment and free from aggregate. Suitable excavated material may need to be segregated and stockpiled for use in final grading in order to meet these requirements. If suitable material is not available, topsoil approved by the City shall be furnished at no additional cost. Payment for this work shall be made at the contract unit price per lump sum for EARTH EXCAVATION, SPECIAL. EMBANKMENT This work shall be done in accordance with Section 205 of the Standard Specifications. This work consists of placing any fill material required behind the retaining walls or other locations within the construction limits to achieve the final grade of the finished surface. This work will not be measured for payment separately but shall be incidental to the unit bid prices of the pay items of the contract. LAKE DEWATERING / BYPASS PUMPING The project will require dewatering Leclaire Lake to an acceptable level to construct the retaining wall at the lake. The Contractor shall be responsible for this work and any necessary bypass pumping required for the duration of the project. This work shall be coordinated with the Edwardsville Parks Department and the Edwardsville Public Works Department. This work shall not commence until proposed dewatering and pumping methods are approved by said Departments ahead of time. The lake shall not be completely dewatered. Any necessary traffic control to complete this work shall be included in the cost of TRAFFIC CONTROL AND PROTECTION (SPECIAL). The dewatering of the lake and any bypass pumping required during the project will not be measured for payment separately but shall be incidental to the unit bid prices of the pay items of the contract. REMOVAL ITEMS This work shall be done in accordance with Sections 202, 440, and 501 of the Standard Specifications. This work consists of removing the existing items shown on the removal plan to the lines and grades necessary to construct the proposed improvements of the project. The offsite disposal of removal items shall be in accordance with Article 202.03 of the Standard Specifications, unless otherwise approved by the City. Removal items shown as “By Others” on the plans will be removed from the project area prior to construction by the City of Edwardsville. This work will be paid for at the contract unit price per lump sum for the applicable pay items of CONCRETE FENCE REMOVAL, RETAINING WALL REMOVAL, RETAINING WALL REMOVAL (LAKE), STAIRWAY REMOVAL, and SIDEWALK REMOVAL.
