The Contractor will conduct an archaeological survey, using standard surface-survey methods, as per State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO) guidelines, of the entire “area of potential effect” (A.P.E.) of 3 project sites as defined in Project Sites & Activities below. The Contractor will provide the following field services and methods: • Other than <1m diameter trowel-scrapes, done as needed down to mineral soil, the survey will entail no excavation. • Conduct pre-field background research using the SHPO Oregon Archaeological Records Remote Access (OARRA) system, historic maps, ethnographic sources, and other relevant archives. • Identify any previously documented cultural resources and evaluate their potential eligibility for the National Register of Historic Places. • Perform the survey using surface pedestrian transects appropriate for the terrain and resource sensitivity. Areas such as stream corridors, ridgelines, or rock overhangs should be examined with greater intensity. • Use GPS to record all sites and isolate locations with UTM coordinates and provide maps for each. • Ensure no artifacts are collected during the survey.
