The RIVMC wishes to expand in-ground water piping and install hydrants along the inner ring road of the Cemetery. The addition of approximately 1800 feet of water piping and six hydrants (see section a below) will increase the capability of cemetery personnel to water burial fields during dry summer months and help keep the cemetery fields green during dry spells. There are six burial fields in the center of the cemetery consisting of about 31 acres that staff are unable to currently reach with water. Placing these pipes and hydrants will enable the staff to reach these areas with hoses and sprinklers. Currently, the staff is unable to water these areas and during dry spells the grass withers and dies allowing weeds to take over. The ability to water these areas more frequently will allow the grass to remain green and prevent weeds from taking over. This will improve the overall appearance of the burial fields and reduce the complaints the cemetery receives from visitors.
